This General Election, millions of voters are at risk of being misled by untrue or distorted stories in the national press.
National newspapers and their websites reach over 20 million people every day, yet most of them are not independently regulated.
We at Hacked Off want to examine national newspapers’ coverage of the election in detail for incorrect stories – and set the record straight.
That’s why we are crowdfunding for £15,000, to help ensure that we can call out every press inaccuracy we come across, and ensure the voting public are not misled.
Small margins can make a huge difference at election time. In 2019, 30 seats were won with majorities of less than a thousand.
If just a fraction of the millions of people who access false or misleading newspaper content daily are persuaded to change their vote consequentially, the result of this election could be affected.
